Use of colour, contrast and camera techniques

Sherman began her career as a photographer in black and white colours. These images were often quite vintage-looking in nature, showing off both style and fashion before the 80s. In these photos, she focused heavily on. the angle of which she would take her photographs. she liked to take photos of women from an angle looking up at them to show women as

powerful and to represent feminism.

However, in the 1980s, she had

began to migrate into colour

photography where she would use

bright colours which would stand out

and set the scene of her photos. she

would also skilfully use the lighting

to Provoke emotion. Cindy would

often recreate stills that were used in

movie promotion. In there photos, she

would replicate all of the colours,

angles and camera techniques they

used.

Style

Cindy Sherman is a abstract photographer with an astronomical understanding of color and angles to provoke specific emotions within the viewer. Sherman's pictures are usually quite visually busy and bright or more vintage styled with b&w colouring. she often did self portraits and used tools such as old-fashioned prosthetics.

Intention

Shermans imagery often depicted women as she was big in feminist movements. she looked at women's roles in the social and economic scene. Cindy found herself inspired by performance artists from the generation prior to her as she fell in love with the art of disguise.her photos often questioned the objectification of women by the male gaze and stereotypes of the female gender.

My response

i admire Cindy's creative use of colour as well as her message of feminist power. her images look so elegantly stunning as she is a master of composition in my personal opinion. Her images are equally unique, none of her images are even comparable to one another. She experiments with colour, angles and techniques and does not shy away from change or challenge to achieve the effect and message she wishes to purvey.
